The history of Sake that can be understood from “Omiki”?
What is the reason for offering “Omiki” to God?
・Omiki is sake that is offered to God.
If you look up “Omiki” in the dictionary, you will find “Omiki”.
Since ancient times, it has been customary to serve sake as one of the “Shinsen (meals offered to God)” on special days such as Shinto rituals and festivals. It is said that the liquor offered to the shrine contains the spirit of the gods, and it has been said that it is beneficial to behave as a “drop” after the festival.
According to one theory, the liquor to be offered is “Goshinshu” and the liquor to be served is “Omiki”
In this way, Omiki is indispensable for telling the history of sake.
・Omiki is the finest meal offered to God
Omiki is considered to be one of the most important Shinsen, and it is usually placed in the center of the top of the Kamidana.
Rice is especially important for Japanese people who have developed around rice culture. Rice is a blessing from God, and it has been said that God dwells in each grain of rice. Sake produced from such precious rice, clear water, and fermentation, which is a natural action, was considered to be the highest quality sacrifice to God.
・What kind of sake is offered as “Omiki”?
Is there a rule for sake to be used as Omiki?
When offering Omiki to the shrine, it is officially supposed to offer four types of sake: “white sake,” “black sake,” “sake,” and “muddy sake.” However, it is difficult to prepare all of these, so in recent years it has been simplified except for Ise Jingu and Izumo Taisha, and most of them serve only sake, that is, sake. The same applies when offering to the Kamidana at home.
